Silent Yachts quietly establishes itself as one of the main players in the marine game. The Austrian-based construction company, whose solar-powered fleet continues to grow, has just sold the first three Silent 80 tri-deck catamarans for around 6.7 million US dollars each.
As the nickname suggests, this model is a three-deck version of the shipyard’s flagship Silent 80, which is considered to be the most spacious solar-electric cat from Silent to date. Designed and constructed by Marco Casali and MICAD, the multihull features clean, straight lines, large windows and a distinctive flybridge equipped with horizontal air grills inspired by supercars. According to Silent, this gives the overall appearance sportiness.
The 80-foot deck is also equipped with an additional 970 square foot deck that sets it apart from its predecessor. This room can be set up as an open-air sky lounge (open version) or closed and as an owner’s suite, lounge or studio (closed version). Among the three sold there are both open and closed versions, and the latter will have a main cabin on the upper deck.

Elsewhere on board, the main deck offers a spacious main saloon with an area of more than 600 square meters as well as a galley, a lounge and a dining area. The lower deck can accommodate four to six guest cabins and one to two crew cabins, depending on the owner’s preferences.
Outside on the aft and front decks there are sofas and sun cushions for outdoor relaxation. In the absence of a large engine room, Silent claims the cat has the largest garage in its class. The ship can accommodate a 17-foot tender as well as an integrated lift and launch system. The hydraulic bathing platform could possibly also support a gyrocopter on floats.
One of the ship’s greatest maps is its eco-friendly edge. It is mostly decorated with recyclable materials that are stylish yet sustainable. It is also equipped with 70 solar panels on the roof of the flybridge that generate 26 kWp of electricity. The green energy is then stored in lithium batteries to power the on-board amenities and enable the ship to cruise at night.

Speaking of cruises: the catamaran is equipped with two powerful electric motors, each of which has an output of up to 340 kW in the most modern version and gives the ship a top speed of 20 knots and a range of up to 100 miles per day. That means you can sail silently and emission-free to almost any location without using fuel. (The ship also comes with a generator in case you are in need.)
“We are pleased that the interest in completely sustainable sailing continues to grow,” said Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent Yachts, in a statement. “Our recent orders are further confirmation of this trend for a much greener future.”
In fact, the shipyard is currently developing an even larger model and will release more information this year. It has also partnered with Volkswagen to install the same electric propulsion systems currently used in VW’s ID.3 and ID.4 in a range of multihulls at sea. As I said, major player.
