A local teacher found a way to disrupt the entire COVID-19 conversation and help the community get through the home quarantine period by sharing extremely positive “chalk” while inspiring their elementary school students.
On the positive side, Osceola recently got in touch with a local artist who did just that in her St. Cloud driveway while also serving as a mother and second grade teacher at St. Cloud Elementary to ensure that other people’s children get their remote tasks every day.
In the evening Katrina Maassen breaks out the chalk, goes to her driveway and entertains her four-year-old daughter Londyn.
It started when Maassen looked around her own Pinterest and Instagram accounts and saw that teachers were making chalk art themselves. It inspired her to order chalk herself.
“I grew up with art, I just hadn’t done anything with it in a while, so I decided it was time to come back to it,” she said.
With her influence as a four-year-old, the first drawings were inspired by Londyn’s tastes in popular children’s books. Then she could have fun by dressing up after completing the drawing and becoming part of the chalk scene.
