Terry Cavanagh’s carefree deck construction, cube-shaped Dicey dungeons appeared in Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase in March. It might have taken a while, but the game has finally hit the Switch eShop – check out the trailer above.
The game comes mainly from prolific indie developer and designer Terry Cavanagh (from VVVVVV and Super hexagon Fame), artist Marlowe Dobbe and musician Chipzel. In Dicey Dungeons you play like a giant cube fighting your way through – you guessed it! – a procedurally generated dungeon.
It’s a combination of tough strategy and the luck of the dice as you crawl your way to victory (or defeat, but let’s have some New Years optimism, right?) In the dungeon as one of six characters / classes with different play styles. The game grew out of a rogue jam in 2018 and was designed “with the intent of creating a colorful and enchanting world brimming with personality” and “balancing the tactics and strategy of deck building against the explicit randomness of throwing the dice.” .
It was released on Steam in August 2019 and is currently rated “Very Positive”. Here is a list of the features as per the official PR blurb, followed by some screenshots:
– Six completely different playable classes: warrior, thief, robot, fool, inventor and witch.
– Dozens of enemies ranging from vacuum cleaners wanting to suckle blood to creatures from Irish mythology to vicious snowmen.
– A catchy, upbeat and energetic soundtrack by Chipzel (previously the musician of Super Hexagon).
– Beautiful and adorable work of art by Marlowe Dobbe.
– Procedurally generated for endless playthroughs.
