The victim did not want to be identified. He told WWL-TV that he was driving back from his driveway on the 6100 block of Bellaire Drive shortly before 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning when he was approached by two masked men with guns.

“I rolled down the driver’s window to look in the mirror to get out of my driveway and I see these two guys with guns in the rearview mirror coming up the side of my driveway,” he said.

The victim says he decided in a split second to accelerate.

“I totally knocked it down,” he said. “I didn’t know what else to do. I looked up and now their guns are up and they’re shooting at me. You shot three times. Once they hit the van and the other two, there’s no telling where they hit. Thank god I wasn’t. ”

The man said his van stopped when he pulled away from his attackers.

“I’m probably 35-40 feet from them at this point,” he said. “I’m a sitting duck at this point. So instead of them coming to me, which I thought they would surely do, they left.” to the getaway car, jumped in and started. ”

The victim’s security cameras videotaped the entire crime. It also showed two men staking out his house for about an hour before shooting.

Brandon Lirette, a neighbor on the street, said his wife heard the gunshots.

“She thought it was fireworks,” said Lirette. “Now we hear it was a shootout. That’s crazy. It’s crazy. Sign of time.”

Lirette was unable to prevent this type of crime.

“We have gates and fences and dogs and cameras and security, they don’t mind,” Lirette said. “You just get on.”

According to a NOPD spokeswoman, “we are investigating this incident. We believe the offender’s vehicle could have been a silver or blue Honda. Detectives are still collecting evidence. ”

The victim said thank God that he is still alive to talk about the crime.

“Every time they shot, it wasn’t long between shots. I remember thinking to myself I wasn’t hit. I am not hit. It was something, man. ”
