The Vinyl Institute elects Roger Kearns as chair
Vinyl Institute (VI), the U.S. trade association that represents manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), additives, and modifiers, is pleased to announce that Roger Kearns, Executive Vice President of Vinyls Chemicals, Westlake Chemical Corporation, is today to announce the 2021 VI was elected chairman of the association’s annual meeting, Vinyl360.
“We are very pleased to welcome Roger as the new Chairman,” said Ned Monroe, VI President / CEO. “Our membership recognizes the key role Roger will play in leading and developing the vinyl industry. He will assist in legislative and regulatory positions that will not only grow the PVC industry, but will also protect our product reputation and ensure the continued implementation of our strategic priorities. “
In this role, Mr. Kearns will also chair the VI Executive Committee, comprised of its corporate members who can manufacture 1 billion pounds or more of vinyl chloride suspension polymers or copolymers in the United States. Mr. Kearns served as vice chairman in 2020.

The Vinyl Institute (VI), the U.S. trade association that represents manufacturers of vinyl, vinyl chloride monomer (VCM), additives, and modifiers, presented the Vinyl Institute Lifetime Achievement to the Chao family Ting Tsung (TT), founders of Westlake Chemical Corporation Award at the VI annual conference 2020, Vinyl360.
“The TT Chao family truly embodies the idea of lifelong service,” said Ned Monroe, President and CEO of VI. “Mr. TT Chao has been instrumental in bringing the PVC industry worldwide to where it is today and his children continue to lead with dedication and prestige to uphold the reputation and legacy that has been built. We are delighted very much to be able to award them this award. “
The Lifetime Achievement Award was created to recognize outstanding service to the vinyl industry throughout a person’s career.
The TT Chao family has a long and illustrious history in the vinyl business. As a pioneer in the chemical and plastics industries in Asia and the USA, TT Chao founded a successful global company that spanned more than 50 years. As a co-founder of Taiwan’s first PVC business, he made a huge contribution to the Taiwanese economy, and through many joint ventures and partnerships, his business grew rapidly across Asia.
In the mid-1980s he founded Westlake Chemical Corporation with his sons Albert Chao and James Y. Chao. What began as the only low-density polyethylene plant in Sulfur, Louisiana, has since grown into a $ 8 billion plastics conglomerate, focused on the vinyl and olefins sectors, with more than 50 locations in North America, Europe and Asia operates.
After Mr. TT Chao passed away in 2008, his three children continued to run his businesses. Ms. Dorothy Chao Jenkins has served on the Westlake Board of Directors since 2003 and Mr. James Chao has been Chairman of the Board since 2004. Mr. Albert Chao has been Chief Executive Officer since 2004 and also serves as President and Director of Westlake.
Aside from her accomplishments and tenure with the company, Chaos has volunteered on a variety of civic and education organizational bodies, including the leadership cabinet of Texas Children’s Hospital, the Knowledge is Power program in Houston, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Foundation , Inc. and many more.
