The victim was not believed to be a gang member, but the suspects could have been Santa Ana Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said. It was not known whether the victim lived in the neighborhood where she was shot.
Detectives continued to work on Saturday to find witnesses who could potentially shed light on the shooting and provide a description of the suspect, police said.
The victim’s identity was not disclosed until his relatives were notified. They thought he was in his late 40s or early 50s, Bertagna said.
The murder was the eighth in Santa Ana that year, compared to one around this time last year, Bertagna said.
