ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) – Drivers in Maryland are advised to expect delays on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge as a deck refurbishment project begins.
Two-way operations in a westerly direction will cease on Tuesday. This is to prepare the Maryland Transportation Authority’s $ 27 million deck project.
During the nightly closure of the west-facing span, the crews will re-tire the three lanes so that jersey barriers can be installed next to the right-hand lane to create a safe work zone for the crews.
As of Tuesday, the two-way operation will be suspended due to the narrower lane configuration on the span.
The worst delays going west are unlikely to materialize until full right-hand lane closures begin next week.
The right lane will be fully closed until April 2020, except during the Thanksgiving holiday.
