Brighton, like many Monroe County communities, has laws on the books that require residents to store RV trailers, recreational vehicles, and RVs in enclosed buildings and limit their presence in residential driveways or backyards to three days.
But city overseer Bill Moehle signed an emergency injunction on Thursday lifting some of those restrictions, as well as restrictions on vehicle size.
His order states: “Caravans and recreational vehicles may be parked in a back yard, but not within 10 feet of a property line and in driveways of residential property, for temporary residence in the City of Brighton for household members residing there until the state of emergency The connection with the COVID-19 pandemic has been declared ended. ”
On March 16, Moehle declared the state of emergency COVID-19.
The change should support the practice of self-quarantine, according to a press release that Moehle’s office sent with the order.
“The ability to self-quarantine is of particular concern for people with family members at higher risk for COVID-19 and our frontline workers in healthcare, law enforcement or other key services,” the press release said.
The order followed a similar decree by Pittsford Supervisor Bill Smith, who on April 3 lifted the city’s restrictions on RVs parked in driveways.
“There are doctors, nurses, and other health care providers here in Pittsford who bring their RVs home to stay in to keep their distance from their families,” Smith wrote in an update on the city’s website. “That’s enough for one sacrifice in addition to the other sacrifices they make for all of us. We don’t have to make it difficult for them to park their RVs. ”
It was noted in his post that St. John Fisher College uses dormitories to accommodate up to 13 Rochester Regional Health employees who are doing well but who want to avoid going home between shifts as they are with living together with someone for whom the coronavirus is an increased risk.
Cities are not alone in ensuring that people have options if they want or need to be quarantined by family members. For example, Monroe County offers hotel accommodation for people who are under quarantine when needed.
