In 2018, deck builder Ross Sherwood left Sarpy County District Court and was charged with fraud. On Thursday, client Patti Reid asks the victim to stand up for how Sherwood could skip returning to the judge.
“It’s very frustrating because he can’t show up and things keep going on every month in a row for a year and a half,” Reid said.
Sherwood didn’t call the Sarpy County attorney until he missed a court hearing.
“Once he’s arrested, it will be brought back to court and we will go from there. Hopefully we have a good bond so we can keep him in custody until the trial, ”said District Attorney Scott Earl.
In an email to Six on Your Side, Sherwood says, “Stop portraying me as a great criminal or a refugee.”
Sherwood claims health problems caused him to skip two recent court appearances. The latest failure to show up canceled his trial, scheduled for Monday.
Another missed court date and a now canceled trial leave customers unanswered questions. Will they ever get all their money back and see justice?
According to Sherwood, he has voluntarily refunded $ 51,000 to the court system that pays back several customers in Douglas and Sarpy counties.
“But I’m still three thousand of my eight thousand dollars,” Reid said.
According to Sherwood’s count, he owes $ 9,000 more to fully repay half a dozen customers whose complaints lead to fraud allegations. But Sherwood will need money on a loan when he is arrested on eight pending arrest warrants and a new one who claims he received thousands of dollars for an incomplete project.
Although Sherwood has a public defense attorney for the criminal cases, he hired a private contingency attorney to handle two personal injury suits that he filed. In a suit, he claims that a customer’s dog bit him and caused hand injuries. Sherwood alleged that as a result he missed another trial in October.
